The Time Has Come

The time has come for the Autumn Equinox in the northern hemisphere (Spring Equinox in the southern), Friday 22 September. We leave behind the frantic pursuits of summer and embrace the season of slow ripening and rich storehousing of memories. We may tunnel deeper into the things of God, but...

Movements

• We launched the on-line Pilgrimage of Life on September 1. Within its first week 72 had enrolled and 9 had joined its Face-book page. Now students flock back to high schools and universities. Help us to reach them and register our first 1000 enrolments. The world situation is urgent....

Three Brilliant Launches

The first launch was The On-line Pilgrimage for Life. Preparing the daily emails for this has been my bread and butter and my passion for nearly two years. It would not have been possible without a great team. Australia's Bruce Challener has devoted enormous energy into setting up the...

They Lived Well.

St. Mary's Holy Island was packed for the funeral of Lady Rose Crossman. 'Her whole life was devoted to service' a resident said to me. This poem of Robert Louis Stevenson was read:

She has achieved success who has lived well,

Laughed and loved much;

Aidan And Hilda's Children

On August 25 that saintly abbess Hilda was placed in a shrine at York. On August 31 her mentor, Aidan, died. Our dispersed community members, whether or not they 'do saints', observes August 25 -31 as Aidan and Hilda Week. Tides and times wait for no one, however, so this...

Not In God's Name

Friends have invited me to a meal followed by their local book club meeting. I've bought the book. It is 'Not in God's name: confronting religious violence' by Britain's former Chief Rabbi Jonathan Sachs. It is brilliant.

It reports extensive research that shows that people who are killing in...

Norway Connecting

It was meant to be a holiday. I would tick off Selje and Nideros from my Bucket List. It became a pilgrimage, an apostolic tour, a deepening of followers of The Way.

Mecky and Kristin met me at Bergen airport. We zigzagged round mountains and ferried across fjords for seven...

Shetlands House Of Prayer

I am at Sumbaugh airport, ready to depart from the Shetland Isles to Norway. The Norway Vikings once ruled here. The King of Norway declared his country Christian in 995, including the Shetlands, but behind this there is a story.

Picts who lived here turned to Christ in the 700's....

Go North, My Friend, Go North

It took twenty seven hours from door to door: two trains, one overnight ferry, hired car drives and ferries across two more islands. I could have flown to Australia and almost back to Hong Kong in that time. In fact I am still in Britain, on the island...
