If I Was Standing To Be President
Never since I was ordained have I taken sides publicly in partisan politics. God's kingdom transcends and transforms all political parties, and I want to encourage all supporters to grow in wisdom.
However, the US election may mark a world tipping point. 'The West' (mainly Europe and North America) is being replaced in influence by rising Asian powers.
Christianity has strong pockets in China, South Korea and Inda, and many Iranian emigrants have converted to Christ, but the primary second millennium dynamic for world evangelisation came from western lands. The US election may mark the end of this era. It has huge significance.
Nationalists and liberals - each hi-jacking Christ to their causes -seem headed for a destructive showdown aided (in an age of mass brainwashing) by algorithms and social media that are undemocratically controlled. The still, small voice of God and eternal truths get lost in the tumult.
Those in Community of Aidan and Hilda vows include all political parties. They will not indulge in scapegoating. The US election has been portrayed as a choice between a mass murderer of babies and a woman abuser and crook. Both Democrats and Republicans need a message that redeems their own as well as the other political party - a message that can lay the foundations for a world-wide third millennium expression of God's kingdom on earth as it is in heaven. So ask yourself what you would say on election eve if you were the presidential candidate. This is what I might say:
' Dear Electors and your families,
You are all God's children. If elected I will find practical ways to uplift the poor and workless and I will ,listen to you all.
I will take short-term measures to stop overcrowding by illegal immigrants, but I will also take long-term measures - working with governments of other countries to improve the quality of life in the lands they flee from and thus address the root of the problem.
My foreign policy will be to earn the trust and gratitude of our neighbours and to turn enemies into friends, and to save planet earth from self-destruction by reducing our carbon footprint,
I will respect, not demonise, our opponnets at home and abroard, and uphold 'the dignity of difference'.
I call you all to a revolution to replace mass selfishness with mass unselfishness - one nation under God in pursuit of The Common Good.
Before you cast your vote, listen to the sound and fury, but then listen to the still, small voice of the God of all people. Stop worrying. Stop blaming. Stop hallucinating. Become honest. Become real. Take part in the new and indestructible American revolution: Its not Right, not Left, but Straight!'.
